Special Guest Designer Sandra MacLean

Today we are aiming the spotlight on another one of our incredibly talented customers Sandra MacLean.

Sandra came on our radar when her amazing DoodleFactory cards started popping up in our google search notifications (see it really pays to put stamp credits in your ingredients list on your blog!) It was actually Irene that suggested her for a special guest designer spot and as you can see not only is Irene an amazing stamp artist and fabulous rubber stamper but she is also an extraordinary headhunter for talented designers!

Sandra choose to work with two of our newest releases DoodleFactory Prehistoric and DoodleFactory Costume Party. (which can be found here: www.starvingartistamps.com/doodlefactory.html ) Sandra was also kind enough to let us interview her, so sprinkled through her guest spot you will get to know her better as she answers our interview questions. And now without further interruption...

Introducing... Special Guest Designer Sandra MacLean

Please tell us a little bit about yourself:

I'm a mum to a spunky 4 year old little girl and wife to a very patient man! I was born in in New Zealand and moved with my family to Australia when I was 11. Then I moved to the USA when I was 26 and married my husband, who I happened to meet online in a VW Beetle restoration website. We both loved the old Beetles and its eventually what brought us together. I got my US citizenship last year, so now I can say I am a citizen of three different countries! Not sure how the government feels about that one! LOL

Tell us why you love rubber stamping/ card making:

I discovered card making and coloring in 2008 when I was told about the Splitcoaststampers website by a friend who was an avid stamper. I never knew there were stamps out there that you could color, but once I found that out, I was hooked! I love the fact that that cards are miniture works of art and you can make someone laugh, smile or feel loved just by giving them a card. Mostly, I like cards that make people smile!

How would you define your "style" as a rubberstamper/cardmaker:

My style is all over the place. I like to try new techniques or styles, from vintage and sweet to bold and colorful, but I think the underlying traits to my cards are clean cut lines, simple embellishments and layers. Lots of layers!!

Please give our readers one of your best crafting tips:

One of my best crafting tips would have to be when I cut out my images, I tend to run a black marker around the edges of the image so that the white from the paper doesn't show up in photos. It does a great job of hiding an average cutting job!

With the exception of the basics (paper, paper trimmer, adhesive, stamps, inks) What 3 stamping products (this can be either embellishments or tools) could you absolutely not live without:

Just three things?! If I must pick only three, then my favorite items I can't make a card without are ribbon, dimenionals or pop dots and my little precision scissors! I'd be lost if I had to make a card without at least one of these things!

What type of images would you most like to see be added to our stamp line in the future?

Ooo! I'd sooo love to see some more Creatures with matching hilarious sentiments! Pretty please?! And then some old people stamps...they would make for some awesomely funny cards!

Thank you Sandra for the amazing art you have created with our stamps and for letting us get to know you better!

So now you can all see why we invited Sandra to come play with us this month! Isn't she fabulous?! Speaking of fabulous, we are going to be visiting with some old friends and posting several more guest designer spots in the coming weeks. We hope you will take the time to see what our friends have created for us next!

~Tracey

P.S. Have ever wondered how to be considered for a guest designer spot?

As you might have noticed most of our special guest designer spots go to our customers and friends who's blogs we have stumbled across. Our best advice on catching our eye would be to post clear photos of your best artwork on your blog and on heavily trafficked stamp related message boards like splitcoast stampers, paper craft planet, or two peas in a bucket and send us a link. And remember, as I mentioned before, we have frequently found designers when they come up in our google searches so don't forget to include our correctly spelled company information on all of your ingredient lists. Posting with the words "Starving Artistamps" and/or "Starving Artistamps DoodleFactory " will reach our web crawlers which give us daily alerts.

You picked a fabulous guest designer! I have been an admirer of Sandra's work since we met on SCS in a swap. The detail she puts into her coloring and just the way she puts her cards together is so polished. She doesn't miss a detail. Congrats Sandra! You go girlfriend! I have to agree more creatures and old people with funny sentiments would be great.
